Drivers: Ideal for all families. Troop 5 always needs to rely on Parents to volunteer to drive scouts to the outings, and home. To volunteer, talk to the Trip Coordinator as you sign up your son, or simply follow your emails and volunteer.
Trip Coordinators: Ideal for new families. Troop 5 ALWAYS needs parents to volunteer to be a trip coordinator–can be done from home via email, but it is helpful to come to at least one or two meetings to advertise the impending trip to the scouts and get the sign-ups started. Coordinate drivers, collect trip fees, etc. Great way to get to know other families quickly. To volunteer, find the Outdoor Chair on the Troop Roster to see if there are any open vacancies and learn more about details. some outings will be less involved than others.
Board of Review: Ideal for all families. Troop 5 holds BOR at least twice per year for scouts who are ready to demonstrate their knowledge of scouting and preparedness as they advance from one rank to another. Multiple BOR committees are formed so that several scouts can be interviewed at once. To sign up, simply follow your emails and volunteer when the call goes out. No experience is necessary.
Committee Positions may come available at any time during the year (Treasurer, Committee Chair, Membership, Advancement/Advancement Co-chair, Outdoor Chair, Service Chair, Secretary, website). Some positions may be fine for a new family but others may be more comfortable for a family with at least a year cycle with the troop. If interested, see the Roster and contact a committee member.
Asst. Scout Masters (ASM): Just as with Trip coordinators, we need to have an ASM for each outing! Because all our troop 5 families are busy, you can imagine that we can always use more ASMs to make sure that our trips can go off without a hitch. Other duties include helping with rank advancement (signing off requirements, Scoutmaster Conferences), mentoring the troop leaders and working with other adult leaders to define how the troop is run under the boy-led, outdoor-based philosophy. For more information contact the Scout Master (SM) or other ASMs. Ideal for new or returning families. You will be trained!
Merit Badge (MB) Counselors: Ideal for new or returning families. Choose to become a MB counselor for one or more MB of your choosing. You can apply to be a MB counselor just for our troop/other specific troops, a counselor within our Stanford District or be really brave and be a counselor for the entire Council. Contact Scout Master for more information.
Misc. other Volunteer Positions may be available for the 2013/2014 Season, so please contact the Membership Chair to see if there are other open positions, firstname.lastname@example.org
